As the gambling industry’s leading software supplier, Playtech holds over 130 licenses and is truly a worldwide company. Its portfolio includes many of the world’s leading land-based and online casino groups. Playtech’s gambling software covers casino, live casino, poker, bingo and sports betting.
In July of this year, Playtech acquired Best Gaming Technology (BGT), an industry dominant supplier of sophisticated sports betting software for online gaming and sports betting operators. Having a flexible and modularized software platform allowed BGT to seamlessly integrate with Playtech’s platform which enabled Playtech to take an industry leading position in the online sports betting market. Along with Playtech’s other online sports betting subsidiaries of Geneity, Mobenga and Unilogic, the acquisition of BGT has given Playtech an extraordinary lineup of talent and experience.
BGT brings to Playtech an impressive client list of well established bookmakers in the UK and Spain, such as Betfred, Codere, Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power Betfair and William Hill. But its most valuable resource is its proprietary software for self-service betting terminals (“SSBTs”). These digital betting terminals have revolutionized the traditional over-the-counter sports betting experience.
Now, Playtech announced on Nov. 28, 2016, that is has merged BGT, Geneity, Mobenga and Unilogic with its own sports betting platform to form Playtech BGT Sports. Former founder of BGT, Dr. Armin Sageder, has been named CEO of the new division and will be responsible for business and customer operations. He sold 90% of BGT to Playtech, keeping 10%.
Sageder was also instrumental in co-founding Paysafecard, an online payment processor. He ran that company for four years until, in a similar deal to the BGT sell, he sold 90% of the business to Playtech in 2004, keeping 10%. Sageder will continue to hold his position as CEO for at least three years. The existing BGT Management team, including Markus Hütter (Chief Technical Officer), John Pettit (MD – UK & Ireland), and Dietmar Wiesinger (Chief Operations Officer) are also committed to staying with the business for the same 3 year period. BGT Offices in London, Vienna and Bremen will remain and continue to operate as normal.
The goal for Playtech BGT Sports is to provide a one-stop shop betting experience. This will include Self-Service Betting Terminals (SSBTs), brick and mortar over the counter, mobile and online channels. Sageder said that he was up for the challenge of leading the company forward and that the five division merger had created a powerhouse that is dedicated to serving their clients.
